Nice one Dan. I'm signing up right this blessed minute. Us Ipod Nano users would most certainly benefit from speech output on our Ipods.
hello you all! I varry greatfull for your support. Spread the word to all of your friends. if we get a lot of signatures we may get this goad accomplished. you all should follow in my footsteps and make a petition to companys you think need to have speech in there products as well. Petitions really work as long as you have a lot of signatures so if you believe in this cause sign this petition.
This better get one *hell!* of a lot of signatures or this won't be taken seriously. I think the compromise Apple should really do is to do what the Olympus folks are doing and provide speech output, but make it a mode that can be easily turned on and off. of course we'd need to know how to turn it on, but at this point that part doesn't matter. If you only get a hundred or so signatures, the folks at Apple won't even take you seriously. You'd have to get upwards of thousands, or maybe even hundreds of thousands before they'd consider. Apple has never been one to listen to accessibility concerns, so you're gonna really have to get this thing out there and promote it to absolutely everrryone you know, blind or sighted.

I signed the petition, and I agree with Toon-Chris: This thing'll need thousands of signatures at the very least if Apple is to take any kind of notice. I don't own an IPod myself, and almost didn't read this because of its subject line. So my advice to you—if you're serious about this cause—would be: promote! Promote! Promote! You should've put this under a different subject—something like 'Petition for IPod Speech: Please Read and Sign. Then, I'd say you have a chance of getting to people who are more than IPod owners.
Personally, I think that anything speech-equipped is a good thing, and I wish you luck with this; but you aren't going to get the participation you need by directing this at the audience you've targeted with this board.
